Key Takeaways
- Match tractor and trailer before ordering.
- Check fifth-wheel height and air and electrical connections.
- Review the selected tractor, not only its model name.
Describe the operation
Tell the supplier the trailer and container arrangement, typical loading, distance, terrain and destination. Port shuttle, regional haulage and long-distance use can call for different configurations.
Check tractor–trailer compatibility
Confirm coupling height, fifth-wheel arrangement, air and electrical connections, steering side, wheelbase and drive layout. Ask for the proposed engine, gearbox and axle configuration. Check combination-weight and road rules locally.
Review condition and quotation
For a reconditioned tractor, request current photos, identification, tire and brake condition, cab condition and available functional checks. The quotation should state the selected unit, included work, review evidence and whether a trailer is included.
Buyer Checklist
- Describe trailer, route and loading.
- Confirm coupling and connection compatibility.
- Review current unit photos and condition.
- Check destination limits and written inclusions.
